Brain Controls Pain: ScienCentral News Video

  1. We know about some of the effects of attention & distraction upon pain and this study demonstrated that it is possible to observe changes in brain activity. This is a form of biofeedback. Not too practical from a physio viewpoint but a good example to patients that changing their attention bias alters brain activity certainly in some of the areas involved with the pain experience. The clip only shows a small area towards the front of the brain being called the pain area. We know that the pain matrix is more widely distributed than this would suggest but perhaps they were just showing the most obvious activity.
